Tinchuley, Takdah & Mungpoo 

Tinchuley, Takdah & Mungpoo tour information is required for guests to plan their tour according to the information available. These are small hamlet between Kalimpong and Darjeeling. It is approximately 35 kilometres from Kalimpong & Darjeeling, rather it is centrally located. There is an alternate route from Kalimpong to Darjeeling.  It is situated on the route of Darjeeling to Kalimpong via Takdah route. Situated in the leeward side of the mountains hence is always covered with mist and clouds.  Tinchuley, Takdah & Mungpoo has untouched natural forest. It is a birdwatchers paradise and sunrise views from specific points in this region are greatly enjoyed by all tourist.

Tinchuley literally means three ovens (Chullas in Hindi). It is a small Hamlet close to Darjeeling and earned a reputation of offbeat destinations. Pine forests and the location make it a tourist hot spot. The homestay there is very popular and is a hot spot among an exclusive group of tourist. Situated in the leeward side of the hills the place is always covered with mist and cloud. Tinchuley is located on the route from Darjeeling to Kalimpong but most tour operators do not use the route. The inhabitants of this quiet settlement took an initiative for establishing their locality as a model organic village. World Wildlife Fund (WWF) declared Tinchuley as a model village a couple of decades back for its effort in the improvement of the environment of its adjoining areas with the local people. It provides stunning Himalayan views and the length of the Himalayan Range. It is an ideal village tourism model. Guests can take village walks, nature hikes and tea garden visits during their stay here.

Takdah is a dreamy place where the sun and clouds play hide and seek with glee. Mist and cloud descend at its own will, the foggy trails, the blooming orchids and the majestic mountain views make this place a dreamland for tourist. It is best for leisure package. There is a forest nursery in Takdah close to Tinchuley, floriculture project, bio - composit, vermipost - compost many other eco-friendly projects. Takdah is a small hamlet nearly 19 kilometres from Darjeeling on the route to Kalimpong. Mist and Rainfall are quite heavy here and six months of a year is mostly under severe rainfall. Winters are cold and summers are mild with a slight chilling effect. Takdah was formerly a British cantonment area and it still holds that old-world aura. British India had chosen this place as it is surrounded by hills and cannot be seen easily from the other side of the mountains. A perfect place for army cantonment. There are still many houses and bungalows which were used by the British force for accommodation.

Mungpoo is a small settlement under the Kurseong Sub-division of Darjeeling district in the state of West Bengal in India. Mungpoo or Mongpu is approximately 30 kilometres from Darjeeling and approximately 65 kilometres from Bagdogra Airport or New Jalpaiguri Railway Station. The place is at an elevation of nearly 3850 feet and is known for two most important issues. One is Visit of Nobel laureate Rabindranath Tagore & second reason is the plantation of Cinchona and its factory of producing quinine, the drug for Malaria. Now cinchona, Rubber plant and medicinal plant cultivation are being done here. Reshep is a small market here and a bungalow and a rest house.

A nice place to visit and stay can be in the forest bungalow or in Tinchuley nearby. A Children Home is run by a Christian organization for supporting either orphans or the children below the poverty line. Nearest Railway Station is New Jalpaiguri Railway Station (NJP) in Siliguri nearly 55 kilometres, Darjeeling town is 31 kilometres and Kalimpong is nearly 42 kilometres. Nearest Airport is Bagdogra (IXB) nearly 64 kilometres. It is said that in early days there used to be a harvest of millet and thus the very fact that the Lepchas used to call it Mong - pong, means "A mound of Millet". With changing time Mong - pong also changed to Mungpoo. Mungpoo and Cinchona are synonyms as it is internationally known as the source of Cinchona. Cinchona Farming the native plant to Peru is on the verge of changing itself to the rubber plantation. Later it also was the favourite resting place of Nobel Laureate Rabindranath Tagore. The result of which is the present Rabindra Memorial Labour Welfare Centre and Rabindra Museum established in his memory.

Connectivity / Communication

Airways – Bagdogra Airport (IXB) is approximately 80 kilometres from Takdah and is nearly 04 hours drive. Bagdogra Airport (IXB) is served by regular Indian Airlines, Spice Jet, IndiGo and Jet Airways. Pakyong Airport (PYG) is approximately 70 kilometres and is nearly 02½ - 03 hours drive along river Teesta. There are daily flights from Kolkata, Guwahati and Delhi. The airport is well connected by road and railways in this region. Private vehicles for nearby tourist spots are available from the airport but it is always advisable to book in advance.

Railways – Nearest Railway Terminus was Darjeeling which is nearly 35 kilometres and is nearly 01½ - 02 hours drive. It is the Famous Darjeeling Himalayan Railway (DHR) has a narrow gauge Junction with the heritage train plying from New Jalpaiguri (NJP) to Darjeeling on daily basis and this is the nearest Rail Junction. The nearest major Railway Station is New Jalpaiguri Railway Station (NJP) and is approximately 85 kilometres and is 04 hours drive.  There are regular train services to all the major railway station like Chennai, Delhi, Kolkata, Patna, Mumbai, etc. 

Roadways –  It nearly 35 kilometres from Darjeeling & Kalimpong and is approximately 80 kilometres from Bagdogra Airport (IXB) / New Jalpaiguri Railway Station (NJP) / Siliguri in West Bengal. It is situated nearly 30 kilometres from the National Highway number 10. Branches off from National Highway number 31 and at a distance of 90 kilometres from Siliguri is Darjeeling. It is approximately 100 kilometres from Bagdogra Airport (IXB). It is a little over a 95 kilometres from Gangtok, and approximately 60 kilometres from Kalimpong. Darjeeling is well connected to Siliguri by two alternate routes. Well connected to Namchi, Ravangla, Jorethang, Kurseong, Pelling, etc.
